Generally, mild steel SS400 sheets and plates are unsuitable for cryogenic applications. At low temperatures below -20°C (-4°F), stainless steel can be brittle, losing its durability and shock resistance. This makes it more susceptible to cracking and failure under cryogenic conditions. For cryogenic applications, materials that are very strong and resistant to brittle, such as stainless steel or special low-temperature alloys, are preferred to ensure safety and reliability in extremely cold environments.
